eLuckyfocus: Represent and Rage!
If I was 10 or 20 years younger and living in Joburg, I’d be having so much fun! Did I tell you I was delusional?
Seriously, take a look at Represent.co.za and Rage.co.za.
Represent coined the term blogazine to define the unique mix of arts and technology posts on their blog. And what an eclectic mix […]
Bodies: The Exhibition
A couple weeks ago, I went to see Bodies: The Exhibition while it was here in my home town of San Diego, California.
The exhibition presents real (thankfully not LIVE) human bodies, whole organs and various kinds of tissue, preserved using a scientific process called polymer preservation.
Each exhibit hall focuses on a different system or facet […]
DesignMuti: Showcasing South-African Designers
Take a look at the stunning artists profiled on DesignMuti, a blog featuring the diverse, original work of South-African sculptors, furniture makers, textile artists and jewellers.
The gorgeous vases below are from Mandela Park Mosaics in Hout Bay.

Flying The Long Haul With a Baby
The first time we did the 24-hour jaunt back to South Africa with our three-month-old son Tau, we learned a few things about flying with an infant:
To pack double the babygros you think you’ll need — he blew out of six of the seven outfits we packed!
Leave the toys at home if your baby is […]
A Dozen Good Reasons to be South African
Small business, entrepreneurship and making a BIG difference with small ideas.
That is the focus of Ideate, a blog that embodies the freshness and enthusiasm so evident in South Africa.
Ideate provides support for new business ideas — and does it with a liberal dose of humour and using an informal blog format and enewsletter.
Here is their […]
Spam Art
What to do with all those spam emails promising you bigger, perkier breasts and cheaper prescription drugs?
Scottish artist Linzie Hunter turns them into art. Very funny art …
Local chicks who need lovin on the side
This secret weapon will give more power to your little soldier
Any bigger and I’d have to join the circus

In a recent public service announcement, Sowetan poet, actor and musician Zola implores his countrymen to stop raping the mothers, sisters and daughters of South Africa.
500,000 women are raped in South Africa a year. One can only hope that Zola’s words find their mark.

How’s the Weather Where You Are?
From time to time, I’d like to focus here at eLuckypacket on the tools we use to keep in touch with friends and family abroad.
And I’m thinking of all sorts of online services and doodads:
The best Internet phone and messenger tools.
Web-based calculators for converting rands to Aussie dollars, kilos to pounds and so on.
Online radio […]
I Had To Smile …
Eish posted a Van der Merwe joke the other day and it went something like this …
Van has a petrol station in Poffadder and is trying to increase sales. So he puts up a sign that reads: Free Sex with Fill-Up.
A local pulls in, fills his tank and asks for his free sex. Van tells […]
Doo Bee Doo!
It’s the weekend. Let’s take it out with a little Freshly Ground and their infectious tune Doo Bee Doo.
Love Zolani and Kyla in this video — they are positively luminous!
By the way, check out their website for more videos, details on the band, and stunning desktop art and screensavers.

I love Real Simple magazine.
Love the balance of good recipes, fresh decorating ideas, natural health and beauty features, and life-organization tips.
And I love the simple, clean style of this publication — truly a rest for the eyes and soul.
I can also be a bit cheap when it comes to subscriptions. So I get my […]
The Little Things
We have just returned from three weeks touring beautiful New Zealand.
It was our first visit there and we had a fabulous time!
What struck us most was how simple and open the Kiwi lifestyle is.
And we noted on more than one occasion how the small communities along Auckland’s North Shore are like the neighbourhoods my husband […]
Charity and Wine
Charity Wines raises funds for charities in the winelands of the Cape.
For R250, they will send you six premium bottles of wine from top vineyards including Nederburg, Landskroon, Lanzerac and other award-winning wineries.
How does it work? Each month, leading wine producers donate wines to Charity Wines, who mix and match and then send out the […]
A Bit of This and That
I will spend this month posting a variety of bits and pieces. So that you get a good taste of the kind of content I hope to offer on eLuckypacket.
Fashion, fun, technology, food and wine (of course), travel, reading, news, photography. You name it.
I am also looking forward to inviting well-known bloggers to guest post […]
Ah, It’s Friday …
And what could be better than waking up tomorrow morning to a beautiful cup of coffee?
We have a fabulous espresso maker at home and hubby is a great coffee maker. That said, he has yet to learn how to make the foam look pretty. Details, details!
I came across this tutorial some time back. We just […]
